Bratislava Open attracts global stars, with Kokkinakis headlining the clay-court event

The 24th edition of the prestigious Bratislava Open will get underway on Monday at the TK Slovan Bratislava courts. The tournament, which has built an excellent reputation in the tennis world, has welcomed players such as Fernando Verdasco and Dominic Thiem in the past. This year, the biggest international attraction will be Thanasi Kokkinakis, who received a wild card from the organizers. Tournament director Branislav Stankovič described his participation as great news for all tennis fans.

For players, the Bratislava tournament serves as an ideal stepping stone to the highest levels of the sport. A prime example is young Czech talent Jakub Menšík, a former Bratislava Open participant, who is currently battling for a place in the Roland Garros final against Alexander Zverev. Stankovič, who knows both players personally, believes the young Czech can triumph and expects an outstanding tennis spectacle.

Home fans will be cheering especially for a strong Slovak contingent. Returning from injury, Alex Molčan will be the tournament’s top seed and Slovakia’s biggest hope. The main draw will also feature experienced Norbert Gombos and rising talent Lukáš Pokorný.

In Sunday’s qualifying rounds, several other notable Slovak players will be in action, including Martin Kližan, Andrej Martin, Miloš Karol and Max Lörinčík.
